Show me what stock GMC truck or van wheels I should put on this van. Remember that this is a 5-lug, half-ton bolt pattern that went away around 1987 or 1988. Or maybe into the 90s... (I hate the old dog dishes)

What exactly are you expecting?

I’d ditch stock. Go for some centerlines.

There’s not really any reason to stick to van/truck wheels in my opinion. There are so many 5/4.75 wheels out there that you can stretch a bit. If I’m not mistaken you could even go with Firebird wheels.

With the standard Chevy pattern you can pretty much go with whatever wheel style you like, but I’d stick to an old school aftermarket look like these turbine wheels.

GM used that pattern up until 2002 in the Astro. They went away from it when they scraped the old style wheel bearing, hub flange and spindle type knuckles and went to 6 bolt integrated hub bearing assemblies that bolt on.

its a 5" on 5 lug wheel......... measure from the center of a lug, skip one, then the outside far edge of the other........ i like the truck rallye......... on lots of 71- mid to late 80s trucks........ they come in a variety of widths 10 being the widest........

Kinja'd!!!

also some years of buick wheels will fit usually the late 70s early 80s big cars, also some pontiac wheels............but they need to be off the big cars, like the lemans to have the big 5x5 pattern.

Kinja'd!!!

that ought to be a fun van............

TONs of options............ yeah, it depends on how you measure the lugs, ask for a 4.75 and they will give you wheels with a car pattern. i measure from center of one lug, skip a lug, and then the outside far edge of the next.

My giant lard of a ‘59 Lincoln has 5x5 wheels, and if it were a mere two years older it would have the really dicky old Ford truck pattern 5.5x5. These things come from being two and a half ton plus... of course they’re 14"s with 8" of sidewall all around (30")per factory spec.

Even being towed along with scrap tires it’s like riding a cloud. I could replace the coils with air bags some time down the line, but that seems like gilding the lily.

Thanks for the reply. I’m looking for something stock that says GMC and would be more or less true to the original intent of the vehicle. Die-Trying, below, shows a set of rallye rims, and I think that’s the look I’m after. Something fairly ordinary, but not hub caps. And GMC.

That’s more the idea, but not 8" wide. I have a straight-six and Armstrong steering; I want something that accomodates the narrower 75/15 tire.

We had a set of rallye rims on a 4wd suburban in my family that came stock, but it was simply too heavy for big sidewall 15"s to keep down the road straight. Thus, we’ve got them in storage. Six lug, however.

6-inch would be the width. I want a 75/15 P-rated radial for ride quality. And if they’re narrower, they’ll spin more easily...

Kinja'd!!! RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht > Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo
10/11/2016 at 18:13

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly appropriate. You’re not making use of the van in a way that calls for a(big, squishy) A/T tire, nor is your GVWR nudging 7,000lb. Both were true with that Suburban, which made keeping it the road an issue on 15"s.

I’m pretty sure that’s the same bolt pattern the Safari and Sonoma used, so the stylized steelies off either of those is my pick.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Neither use a very wide tire (205s I think), and both are 15 inch. The safari wheels need these center caps to look complete, but I’m biased because my Safari had those wheels.

Yes, those top ones are nice. Something simple and stock like that with GMC spinners. Do you know what those top ones came from? I’m not that picky. I’d use any of a wide range of them; the bottom line will be price. And maybe there are some aluminum possibilities that would reduce unsprung weight.

Kinja'd!!! Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo > Takuro Spirit
10/11/2016 at 19:55

Kinja'd!!!0

That would be okay if I could get a set of them for cheap and include the center caps. +1 for aluminum and lighter weight. I’m not that worried about them as long as they match and they’re in decent shape and the price is right.
